
Division 14 flotillas conduct a variety of 'Safe Boating Classes' in our effort to meet the boating public's needs. A brief summary of some of the courses offered are liste below.
The ABC (America's Boating Course) course is a short course that when completed, will provide the graduate with a certificate that will meet the requirements in most states for operating a PWC. The course covers seven chapters with review questions. This course can be taught in one to three days.
The BS&S (Boating Skills & Seamanship) course is a more comprehensive course lasting from 6 to 12 weeks; and will also provide the successful student with a certificate that will meet the requirements for operating a PWC in most states.
The Advanced Coastal Navigation course delves into the details of dead reckoning, coastal piloting, chart reading, current sailing, radio navigation, fuel and voyage planning and other related topics. This course takes 12 weeks to complete and requires the completion of homework assignments.
GPS for Mariners is a short course that teaches the practical use of a GPS unit and the Global Positioning System as a navigation tool. Unit settings, operation and terms are demonstrated with helpful graphics.
